Dear Canal Winchester Schools Community,
Serving as the Superintendent of Canal Winchester Local Schools for the last ten years has been the highlight of my career. It is an honor to work with such a caring and dedicated team of professionals with the support of families and the community and to be trusted with the care and education of our community’s children.
Recently, a professional opportunity presented itself that is the right next step for me in my journey as an educator. It is bittersweet for me to share that I have accepted the position of CEO of META Solutions, effective August 1, and will be resigning from my position as Superintendent. META Solutions is a government organization called an Information Technology Center that serves school districts in our area, including Canal Winchester Schools. Although it is not a traditional school district, META’s commitment to serving schools and valuing people and relationships aligns with my own values and professional goals, and I am excited for this opportunity to broaden my ability to impact education through service.
I am so proud of everything we have accomplished together. The district is fortunate to have a strong financial outlook and has wisely managed the taxpayers’ investment in education. In fact, the district is one of few around the state that has not asked for additional taxpayer money since 2009. And yet, we’ve accomplished so much in that time, including:
- Renovating Canal Winchester High School
- Launching a robust Mental Health program
- Implementing one-to-one technology
- Navigating the challenges of educating students in a pandemic
While I am incredibly proud of all these accomplishments, I am most proud of the amazing team of educators and professionals we have put together at Canal Winchester Schools. Our staff demonstrates every day their dedication and care for the children of this community. We have an outstanding leadership team in place and a committed Board of Education at the helm. This team knows the community well and will continue to steer the district to do what is best for kids at every step. Although leaving is bittersweet, I am confident that the people at Canal Winchester Schools are among the best you could find anywhere and that the district is in great hands.
Although I am leaving my position in the district, my affection for Canal Winchester Schools, the teachers, the staff, the administrators, the families, the community, and most importantly, the students, will never diminish. Thank you for your partnership and support over the last ten years. I look forward to seeing the district’s future success and will be rooting for great things for the Canal Winchester community.
I often close my messages by saying, “Make it a great day or not… the choice is yours.” I leave knowing that Canal Winchester will always choose to make it great - and that’s why this community is an incredible place to live, learn, and work.
