Canal Winchester students joined Madison-Groveport schools for a day of fun outside activity for the 2022 Champions Day at Turnpoint Church on Tuesday, May 10.
A combined effort between Canal Winchester Schools Adapted Physical Education Teacher Joe Goodyear and Groveport Madison’s Adapted Physical Education Teacher Todd Thomas, Champions Day allows students to attend a Field Day with specially designed activities meant to encourage participation by all. It is a fun day that incorporates activities to build strong self-esteem, social esteem, team-play, leadership, and fit kids in a safe environment. This annual partnership between Canal Winchester and Madison-Groveport schools resumed this year following a break during the pandemic.
“Champions Day is a fun experience that our students and staff look forward to each spring,” said Superintendent Jim Sotlar. “We are grateful to Madison-Groveport Schools for their partnership in making this event possible.”
Champions Day began at Groveport-Madison Schools but starting in 2016 it became a combined day with both Groveport Madison and Canal Winchester students represented. Students enjoy this day getting outside, meeting students from Groveport Madison, and enjoying the many activities planned for them.
Peers from Canal Winchester High School and Groveport-Madison Schools attended the event to help out. Canal Winchester High School Senior Jameson Hippler said he enjoyed assisting with bounce houses during the day.
“Seeing people’s smiles makes a nice day even nicer,” he said.
Thank you to Director of Special Services Brooke Hippler, staff, families, and students from both districts, and Turnpoint Church for supporting this event!
