On Tuesday, April 12, Superintendent James Sotlar and Canal Winchester High School Principal Amy Warren met with the students on the Superintendent’s Student Advisory Council.
This group provides students with a voice on decision-making and insight into district initiatives, goals, and key issues. Group members attend Board of Education meetings and act as a bridge between students and district administration.
The Student Advisory Council includes two CWHS students from each grade and two at-large members. The group is considering expanding next year to add an additional student in each grade level and an additional at-large member.
Students on the Advisory Council are encouraged to help creatively problem-solve the topics discussed in meetings and to work collaboratively toward solutions. Discussion topics include peer mentoring on bullying, policy implementation and development, improved communication, and general student concerns or perceptions.
The group also studies articles from "The 7 Habits of Highly Effective Teens" by Sean Covey to focus on developing leadership skills, collaboration, and problem-solving.
