New bus drivers hired after July 1 at Canal Winchester Schools will be eligible for a signing bonus of up to $2,000 after being employed as a driver for sixty days.
Schools around the country are facing a bus driver shortage, including Canal Winchester Schools. The lack of available bus drivers forced the district to adjust school times twice during the 2021-2022 school year.
A new incentive program will offer sign-on bonuses to new drivers and referral bonuses to existing staff members in an effort to attract additional drivers. In order to qualify for the bonuses, a person must work 60 days in the district as a driver. The program offers:
- A $1,000 sign-on bonus for new drivers who do not have a CDL license or bus driver endorsement after training and of work as a driver.
- A $2,000 sign-on bonus for drivers who already have a CDL license and bus driver endorsement after sixty days of work as a driver.
- A $500 referral bonus for any employee who refers a hired driver after sixty days of work as a driver.
