Three Administrators Join Canal Winchester Leadership Team

Canal Winchester Schools will welcome three new administrators to its leadership team for the 2022-2023 school year, pending Board of Education approval on July 6, 2022.
Experienced educator Mr. Brian Moore will join the district as the Principal of Canal Winchester Middle School and will be joined by new CWMS Assistant Principal Ms. Natalie Friend. Ms. Ada Nicholson-Burley will step into the role of Assistant Principal at Canal Winchester High School.
The Board of Education will vote on a recommendation to hire these administrators at a special meeting at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, June 6, 2022, in the Board Room at the CW Schools Education Center, 100 Washington Street.
“Mr. Moore’s focus on building strong student and staff relationships and experience working with diverse students and staff will be an asset in his new role at Canal Winchester Schools,” said Ms. Kiya Hunt, Assistant Superintendent. “His instructional knowledge, enthusiasm for education, and commitment to empowering others through shared leadership align with the values of our district and will make him a great addition to our team.”
Mr. Moore comes to the district from Hilliard Davidson High School, where he has served as Assistant Principal since 2015. Prior to that, Mr. Moore taught social studies at the middle and high school levels for 18 years, including teaching at New Albany High School, Groveport Madison High School, and Worthington Kilbourne High School. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Education from Capital University, a Master’s degree in Educational Administration from the University of Dayton, and completed coursework to obtain his Superintendent’s license at Miami University. In addition to his teaching and administrative experiences, Mr. Moore coached football, baseball, and basketball at the middle school, high school, and university levels. He fills the position of Ms. Kelly Zywczyk, who resigned in June to accept a position out of state.
Ms. Natalie Friend will join Mr. Moore at CWMS as an assistant principal. Ms. Friend has worked at Canal Winchester Schools since 2013, first as a Spanish and ESL Teacher, and most recently, as a Student Support Specialist. Prior to joining CW Schools, she taught at Sylvania City Schools and Fremont City Schools. Ms. Friend holds Bachelor’s degrees in Education and Spanish from The University of Toledo, earned her TESOL endorsement at Ohio University, and earned a Master’s in Educational Studies at The Ohio State University, where she completed the Accelerated Principal’s Licensure program. She fills the position of Mr. Bryce Culver, who resigned to accept a position in another district.
“As a community member and valuable staff member, Ms. Friend exceeded expectations during the interview process and worked closely with the leadership team at Canal Winchester Middle School this past year,” said Ms. Hunt. “Ms. Friend is a true professional and the relationships she has already established at CWMS will help her transition to her new role as assistant principal.”
Mr. Moore and Ms. Friend will be joined on the CWMS Administrative Team by current Assistant Principal/ Middle School Athletic Coordinator Mr. Brent Palsgrove.
At Canal Winchester High School, Ms. Ada Nicholson-Burley will serve as an assistant principal beginning in August. Ms. Nicholson-Burley joins to the district from Columbus Africentric Early College High School, where she has taught Mathematics since 2017 and served as co-department chair since 2020. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Integrated Mathematics from Kent State University, where she was an NCAA Division I Thrower, and a Master’s degree in Educational Leadership from Eastern Michigan University.
“Ms. Nicholson-Burley’s student-centered leadership experience will make her an integral addition to our leadership team,” said Ms. Amy Warren, Canal Winchester High School Principal. “Her compassionate care and instructional expertise set her apart in the interview process and will benefit all of our students and staff.”
Ms. Nicholson-Burley fills the position of Mr. Rodney Harris, who resigned in June to take a position in another district. She will join Principal Ms. Amy Warren, Assistant Principal Mr. Greg Lahr, and Assistant Principal Mr. Steven Cvetanovich in the CWHS administration.
