In the Library Learning Commons at Winchester Trail Elementary School, students take what they learn in books and apply it to real life, so it's no surprise that our 5th grade book club members took a break from discussing their latest novel to plant some new life! The seeds of this project were sowed in the fall, when the Book Club read "Pumpkin Jack" by Will Hubbell and discussed the process of decomposition and regeneration.
Using kits provided from Franklin County Public Health, students planted vegetable seeds and learned about the process of growing their own garden. Some plants were left to germinate in the LLC's sunny windows, but most students are now enjoying growing their plants at home with their families. They are all looking forward to seeing how big their plants get before the end of the school year!
