The Ohio Educational Library Media Association, (OELMA) Board of Directors is pleased to announce that Ms.Janie Kantner is the recipient of the 2021 OELMA Leadership-in-Action Award.
The Leadership-in-Action Award recognizes Ohio school librarians pursuing active leadership roles in local schools, in OELMA, and in national professional organizations. This award honors OELMA members demonstrating an ongoing
commitment to leadership in the school library profession.
In her letter of nomination, OELMA Past President Liz Deskins stated:
Janie's library philosophy is that the library is the center of all learning and the library serves everyone. She impacts her school and others by making sure the library and its resources support the curriculum and all students have access to books. Her commitment to improving library services includes creating a library learning commons, hosting author visits, using a flexible schedule, and waiving fees for lost items, ensuring that all students still have access to library materials. Something Janie has done to make CW libraries run smoothly this year included taking initiatives to develop district-wide and building-specific guidelines for the safe reopening the school libraries during the time of COV/0-19, ensuring all students could maintain access to print, and digital resources, and technologies. Janie communicates her vision for school librarianship by meeting regularly with the other district librarians to develop ways to strengthen library services.
