Back to School Checklist
Don't miss a thing as you prepare for the new school year by following the Canal Winchester Schools Back-to-School checklist!
- Transportation forms must be completed by Monday, August 5, to be placed on a bus route when routes are released on PowerSchool on Thursday, August 8. You can complete the form by logging into PowerSchool, selecting "Forms" and selecting "Transportation."
- Update your student's back-to-school forms through Powerschool.
- Breakfast and lunch for all students will be free during the 2024-2025 school year through the Community Eligibility Provision of the National School Lunch and Breakfast programs. Click here for more details!
- Review supply lists and purchase any supplies needed for the new school year. (see the Supply Lists section below!)
- Download the ParentSquare app and create your account for quick and convenient access to CW Schools news.
- Attend Back-to-School events. (see the Important Dates section below!)
- Check PowerSchool for bus routes after 5 p.m. on Thursday, August 8, and for schedules and classroom teachers after 5 p.m. on Tuesday, August 13.
First Day of School
- August 20, 2024: First day of school for Kindergarten students, last names A-G, and all students in 1st through 6th grades and 9th grade
- August 21 2024: First day of school for Kindergarten students, last names H-O, and students in grades 7-8 and 10-12 (All 1st through 12th grade students attend)
- August 22, 2024: First day of school for Kindergarten students, last names P-Z (All 1st through 12th grade students attend)
- August 23, 2024: All K-12 students attend
- August 26, 2024: First day of school for Preschool students (All 1st-12th grade students attend)
Back to School Forms
Log on to PowerSchool to complete your back-to-school forms and update transportation information by the end of the day on August 5, 2024, to ensure your child’s transportation is ready for the 2024-2025 school year.
Back-to-school forms help us set up transportation for your student for the start of school, keep in touch with your family during the year, and keep your student healthy and safe.

Supply Lists
This year, we are partnering with TeacherLists to make school supplies shopping even easier! You can use the links below to see the list of supplies for each grade.
On each supply list, you can:
- See all of the supplies needed for the school year
- Shop your favorite retailer by using the "add to cart" buttons at the top of the page to build a cart of all the supplies on the list.
- Customize your list by adding and removing items from your cart before ordering

Canal Winchester High School (9th through 12th grades): Individual teachers provide supply lists for their classes at the beginning of the school year. Students should bring basic supplies such as paper and pencils for the first day of school. Please see the general supply list for a list of supplies that most students will use during the school year.
School Meals
This year, all Canal Winchester Schools students will receive free breakfast and lunch every school day. The district has been approved to participate in the Community Eligibility Provision of the National School Lunch and School Breakfast Programs, which makes this possible.
Meal prices for the 2024-2025 school year are:
- Grades K-12 Breakfast: Free
- Grades K-12 Lunch: Free
- Grades K-12 Milk only: $0.50
- Grades 6-12: Ala carte items available Items priced individually
School Times
School arrival and dismissal times for the 2024-2025 school year are:
- Middle School 7:15 a.m. to 1:35 p.m. (Doors open at 7:00 a.m. for students)
- High School 7:55 a.m. to 2:20 p.m. (Doors open at 7:45 a.m. for students)
- Winchester Trail Elementary 8:50 a.m. to 3:10 p.m. (Doors open at 8:40 a.m. for students)
- Indian Trail Elementary 9:35 a.m. to 3:55 p.m. (Doors open at 9:25 a.m. for students)
- AM Preschool: 9:35 a.m. to 12:10 p.m.
- PM Preschool: 1:20 p.m. to 3:55 p.m.
Bus Routes
Log on to PowerSchool to complete your back-to-school forms and update transportation information by the end of the day on August 5, 2024, to ensure your child’s transportation is ready for the 2024-2025 school year. Bus Routes will be available on PowerSchool by 5 p.m. on Thursday, August 8.
Schedules and Classroom Teachers
Schedules and classroom teacher assignments will be available in Powerschool by 5 p.m. on Tuesday, August 13.
Kindergarten
Beginning this year, kindergarten will be an all-day program for all students. Students will attend each day from 9:35 a.m. to 3:55 p.m. Kindergarten students will begin on a staggered start, with a small group of students attending each of the first three days of school and all students attending together beginning on Friday, August 23. The staggered start allows our teachers to help students get to know their new classroom and school in a smaller group for a smoother transition into school. The staggered start schedule is:
- August 20, 2024: Kindergarten students with last names beginning with A-G attend
- August 21, 2024: Kindergarten students with last names beginning with H-O attend
- August 22, 2024: Kindergarten students with last names beginning with P-Z attend
- August 23, 2024: All kindergarten students attend

Preschool
The first day of Preschool will be Monday, August 26, 2024. Students attend a half-day program Monday through Thursday. A letter will be sent to Preschool families notifying them of their child’s placement in AM or PM Preschool. If you do not receive this information by August 9, please contact Special Education/Preschool Coordinator Mitzi Boyd at mboyd@cwls.us. or (614) 833-2154.
Preschool will be at Indian Trail Elementary and preschool times for the 2024-2025 school year are:
- AM Preschool: 9:35 a.m. to 12:10 p.m.
- PM Preschool: 1:20 p.m. to 3:55 p.m.
Chromebook Program
Canal Winchester Schools is a one-to-one district, providing access to a Chromebook to each student in grades K-12 to support their learning in school and at home.
The Chromebook will be issued at no cost to the student; however, you have the option to pay a protection fee. Please make sure you fully read our Chromebook Agreement form, found in back-to-school forms on PowerSchool, for important guidelines, procedures and optional protection plan fee information associated with the Chromebook.
Students in grades 3-12 bring their Chromebooks to school fully charged each day, and if they need repairs made to their Chromebooks, they should take their devices to their school’s 'Chrome Depot' for repair assessment. Indian Trail Elementary students use their Chromebooks only during the school day and do not take them home.
School Fees
There will be no standard student supply fees for the 2024-2025 school year. Some students may have fees for parking at CWHS, AP testing, an optional Chromebook protection plan, and pay to participate. School fees are paid in the payschoolscentral.com portal.
Pay to participate fees are $100 for middle school students and $150 for high school students.
