CWMS Students Welcome Honor Flight Veterans Home

Eighty Canal Winchester Middle School students and staff gave local veterans a hero's welcome on Thursday night when they returned from a day trip visiting war memorials in Washington, D.C.

Over 2,000 people gathered at John Glenn International Airport on May 9 to greet veterans coming home from their Honor Flight journey. Our students held up posters and greeted the veterans warmly with open arms and heartfelt words of gratitude for their service as they reunited with their families at the terminal.

In addition to their warm welcome, Canal Winchester Middle School raised more than $3,000 for Honor Flight, a program that provides free trips for veterans and their chaperones to visit the memorials and monuments of our nation's capital. Our students' generosity and dedication ensure that more veterans will have the opportunity to take part in this meaningful journey.

"Our students demonstrated incredible kindness and respect toward the veterans, showcasing the spirit of Canal Winchester Schools and our community," said Principal Brian Moore. "Their efforts are a testament to our values, and I couldn't be prouder of their dedication to this cause."

Canal Winchester Middle School is one of three Purple Star Schools in the Canal Winchester Local School District. The Ohio Department of Education designates Purple Star Schools for their commitment to military students and families.
