Canal Winchester Schools Invites Community Input for Facilities Master Plan

The Canal Winchester Board of Education will involve community members in discussions about the district’s facilities this fall as part of the development process for the Master Facilities Plan. These discussions will include a community meeting at 6 p.m. on October 23 at Winchester Trail Elementary and the opportunity for feedback through the district’s annual survey.

Canal Winchester Schools is partnering with Columbus-based architecture firm SHP to create a long-term Master Facilities Plan. This plan will reflect community input on the future of the district’s academic, athletic, and arts facilities, helping the district prioritize its future facility needs.

“With the completion of the Indian Trail addition, which allowed us to offer full-day kindergarten for all students, we are now looking ahead to build a long-term plan for Canal Winchester Schools’ facilities,” said Superintendent Kiya Hunt. “We want to ensure that our community has a voice in shaping this plan so that it reflects not only the needs of our district but also the hopes, values, and dreams we all have for the future.”

A community meeting will be held at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, October 23, in the cafeteria at Winchester Trail Elementary for anyone interested in learning more about the facilities planning process and sharing their ideas. Additionally, facilities-related questions will be included in the annual Your Schools, Your Voice survey, which will be open to the entire community in October.

SHP will also conduct focused stakeholder sessions with groups of staff, students, and families to gather feedback specific to each school building and the district’s academic and athletic programs. A Community Advisory Team will provide ongoing input throughout the process to ensure the plan aligns with the district’s and community’s priorities.

SHP will present more details about the Master Facilities Plan at the Board of Education meeting on October 14. Community members who are interested in the facilities master planning process can complete the Community Advisory Team interest form or sign up to be notified when the 2024 Your Schools, Your Voice survey opens on the Canal Winchester Schools website.
