Education pathway coming to CWHS fall of 2025

By Lily Tokarz

Many new opportunities are coming to Canal Winchester High School and its student body next year. One such opportunity is for rising seniors who are interested in pursuing a career in education.

Teaching Professions Pathway

CWHS is launching an exciting new opportunity for seniors next year: the Teaching Professions Pathway. Designed for students interested in exploring a career in education, this program will offer a hands-on learning experience that bridges the gap between high school and future careers in teaching.

Why This Pathway?

“Our goal is always to provide students with meaningful opportunities that help prepare them for life after high school,” Mr. Steve Cvetanovich, high school principal, shared. This new program will allow students to gain real-world classroom experience while still in high school, helping them determine if education is the right path for them.

What Are the Benefits?

Students who enroll in this program will:

  • Learn foundational teaching concepts and skills in a senior-only classroom.
  • Spend two days a week working in a real classroom setting within the district.
  • Earn 12 industry-recognized credential points, including the Paraprofessional Assessment, which qualifies them to work as a teacher’s aide immediately after graduation.
  • Gain a competitive edge when applying for education programs in college or transitioning directly into the workforce.

Who Can Participate?

This program is only available to seniors. Students interested in a future career in education—whether as teachers, counselors, or school administrators—are encouraged to sign up.

What Will a Typical Week Look Like?

  • Three days per week: Students will be in a classroom at CW High School learning about education theory and best practices.
  • Two days per week: Students will be placed in a different CW district building, gaining hands-on experience working with students and staff.

How to Sign Up

Seniors can register for the Teaching Professions Pathway when selecting their schedules for next year.

A Stepping Stone for Future Educators

This initiative isn’t just about high school—it’s about building the next generation of educators. Whether students choose to pursue a teaching degree or enter the workforce right away as a paraprofessional, the program equips them with valuable skills and experience.

Interested in shaping young minds and making an impact? Sign up for the Teaching Professions Pathway and take the first step toward a future in education.

Canal’s New Education Pathway Builds Skills for Any Career

The Education Pathway also has benefits even for those who aren’t planning to become teachers.

The pathway focuses on building three core skills: communication, leadership, and working with diverse individuals. In the Interpersonal Communication section, students will gain hands-on experience by working directly with younger students, giving instructions, providing feedback, and collaborating with both teachers and peers. These communication skills are essential in careers like business, healthcare, customer service, and public relations.

Leadership is another key component of the program. Students will take the lead during activities, manage small groups, and model responsibility in classroom settings. These experiences are great preparation for careers that involve project management, coordinating a team, or supervisory roles.

In addition, the program gives students the chance to work with children from diverse backgrounds, helping them learn how to communicate in different situations. This kind of cultural awareness and flexibility is valuable in fields like human resources, counseling, healthcare, and community outreach—and really, in just about any job.

Beyond developing workplace-ready skills, the Education Pathway is also a strong resume builder. It offers real-world experience and can help students stand out to employers or college admissions committees, especially since it includes industry-recognized credentials.

Even if you’re not planning to become a teacher, the Education Pathway is a smart way to gain professional skills that can take you far—no matter where you’re headed.
